Government plans to pass an Equality Bill through the House of Lords failed this week when strong objections were made by an on behalf of Christian churches. The Bishops were especially vocal apparently as were many Conservatives. Indeed the Conservative Party officially opposed aspects of the Bill. Objections were raised because of the fear that churches and other Christian organisations could have been prosecuted for refusing to employ people on grounds of sexuality. While priests and pasto... An emerging Kingdom - 55
In my last post on the emerging Kingdom from Mark 15:1-15, I wrote about how the heart so often displays its condition. In this second post on the same passage I want to look at how the empire – through its representative Pilate – managed to bolt-on something to the Passover celebration that would lead men astray.

The Mothers' Union
On Friday I’m speaking at an Anglican Church Mothers’ Union meeting (no sniggering in the back, please!) on the island. It’ll be a small gathering by all accounts and I was press-ganged into it by a family member during a time when I found it hard to say no. They don’t want anything too spiritual (!) so I asked what I should speak about. ‘What about the time ... Continue reading ...

I've noticed increased helicopter traffic overhead over the past couple of days - far more than usual. They fly from the RAF base in Valley towards the Snowdonia. Then I read this in the Daily Post today. It seems that Prince William is back with us for a season. No I don't mind him being here and understand that he needs something to keep him occupied. I just hope that all the extra to-ing and fro-ing in the helicopters isn't keeping vital support from Afgahnistan. Continue reading ...
Post-Christendom
Can we continue to ‘do church’ in the same that we have done it for the past 1600 years? Or has the landscape we now occupy in Western Europe changed so much that we have to look again at our practices and change? My answer to the first question is ‘no’ and to the second ‘yes’. Christian faith and culture has become marginalised; far from being a dominant force able to shape society in our own image, we have become one minority group among many. And we have to respond to this chan... Continue reading ...
