A quick update from the Big Brother House – Dave was not nominated by the housemates last night, so he’s probably safe for another week. In fact, not a single person chose him for eviction. This is such a reversal from previous weeks when he’s been up for eviction every time and clearly held in considerable suspicion by some. For those who haven’t followed the series or the fuss surrounding it, Dave is a charismatic Christian from south Wales and was invited to take part in this year’s Big Brother. I blogged about his early experiences in the house in this post.

Why the turnaround? I think it is probably because he put a great deal of effort into serving the others over the weekend. One housemate was being punished for a misdemeanour by being asked to undergo some physical exercise under the instruction of an American Marine – but Ben refused to comply and was asked to nominate another housemate to take his punishment for him. He chose Dave.

Dave was also given the choice of passing the buck onto someone else but instead of doing this, he dutifully completed the task. The rest of the house was so glad of this and were impressed by Dave’s willingness to save them from this.

And the lesson for the church? Simple really – just do as Jesus did and serve, serve, serve.
