I’m hoping to be a bit more focussed in my blogging this year so regular readers will notice some changes. The first change will be fewer posts. Rather than the five posts a week I will only aim to fill three slots – though if I feel I have something to say about an issue then you may well see additional posts. These three slots (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) will have a particular focus each week and will reflect my current reading, research and thinking.

Mondays

On Mondays my aim is to blog about the pagan influences on the Christian faith. Christianity has never existed within a vacuum but has always developed within a pagan context. This was especially true in its early centuries. Unpicking this influence is essential if we are to see the church being the temple of the Holy Spirit on earth, partnering with God in bringing restoration to the whole of creation.

Wednesdays

On Wednesdays I will be focussing on the whole issue of post-Christendom. In the Western world some sections of the church are having a collective nervous breakdown as their version of Christianity loses its dominant position in society. That the church is losing influence is undeniable as the growth of secularism and other religions continues but rather than complain about the situation it would be much better if we found a different way of being culture-changers.

Fridays

On Fridays I intend to focus on the Bible. For too long the literalist reading of the Scriptures has held sway within some church traditions – to the extent that some even insist that the KJV is the only authoritative version available. This view has poorly served the church. Different ways of reading and understanding the Bible will be offered in this section along with short series on particular passages of interest.

Reform

I have been in full time ‘ministry’ on and off for the past twenty years. I have always been convinced that reform was needed. My early thoughts and attempts merely tinkered on the edges. I then believed that a return to a conservative minded theology was key. By now, like many others, I am convinced that the reform needs to be far deeper and radical and this will be my blog’s focus.

If you have any suggestions about subjects I should cover or on books I should read and blog on, then please leave a comment below.
