Graham Peacock was ministering with
the Methodists in the Colwyn Bay area when I lived there and became
a valuable friend. We managed (just) to meet up this summer for coffee back in
our former stomping ground. He blogs daily and today I want to share this post
of his. It is a story he’s borrowed from elsewhere and is such a powerful
challenge to the way we live our lives.

Tolerance of the intolerant
Some of the best radical Christian thinking on the web can be found at the Clarion Journal of Spirituality and Justice. Here's a great example penned by a friend of Wales, Brad Jersak. He writes about tolerance being Canada's Caesar. Thoughtful and challenging. Continue reading ...
Driscoll and peace
Why men don’t do church is a problem
many are trying to address, none more so, maybe, than Mark Driscoll of Mars
Hill, Seattle. Part of the solution offered seems to be making the faith
more macho and putting less emphasis on having intimacy with God – which is
seen as the feminisation of the church. But some can see an inherent weakness
in this approach, especially when it comes to de-emphasising peace and l... Continue reading ...
Our hero, Elijah?
Elijah is a hero to many Christians.
But should he be? That’s the question that Kevin Beck of the US answers in his blog. It’s a fresh
new look at a very old story and well worth stopping by to read. He follows up
this post with some other reflections on the story. But be warned - don't read these if you're a conservative or fundamentalist.

Criminals: to punish or restore?
I spent another day in court
yesterday in my new role as a justice of the peace and I have to say that I so
enjoy the experience though it can be quite hard at times. Yesterday we dealt
with fine defaulters. Across the country the amount of unpaid fines is huge and
it seems to me that in many aspects the criminal justice system in general isn’t
working. This morning on the radio I heard a report about an innova... Continue reading ...
Links to some great posts
Rather than write myself today I thought I'd link some great posts for you to enjoy. In this post Kevin Beck of Colorado Springs looks at the militarisation of the US over the past few decades and also tackles the current war in Afghanistan. This blogger consistently comes up with great posts and this is one of the best in recent weeks. In the city council of Leicester the Lord Mayor called for prayers before council meetings to be abandoned as they are outdated. Fair enough. But according to C... Continue reading ...

Election fact and fiction
Two great links for you here. First, Channel 4 News' FactCheck blog and then Times Online Factchecker page. Both sites claim to be independent checkers of the 'facts' presented to us by the parties during this election. Great stuff! Though a sad indictment on the lack of credibility our politicians have. Continue reading ...

A critique of Driscoll's critique of Avatar

He is particularly gifted in website design, digital photography, and also video production. His latest venture is producing some Nooma type videos in Welsh. Here's link to the first. Atheists have happy lives too
Cynical Dragon is a popular blog in Wales (and probably beyond!). In today's post he shares a quotation about atheists living happy and fulfilled lives. It's probably true. Sadly, it's also true that plenty of believers live miserable lives full of dread and fear. Any thoughts on this? Continue reading ...

Tiger Woods - his apology and critics
The Clarion has a great piece about the criticism thrown at Tiger Woods this week following his public apology. It seems to me that Jesus would be with the Clarion on this one, as he too said that those who want to judge should better be sure they have nothing in their own lives that could give rise to judgement. Continue reading ...

English votes for English laws - Cranmer commends
Archbishop Cranmer is a blog I enjoy reading and today His Grace commends some posts on an issue of democracy in England. Of course, I would be more than happy to see a proper English parliament up and running for it would ensure that Wales and Scotland would see their respective assemblies strengthened. Continue reading ...
Shrove Tuesday - pancakes for tea
Tomorrow is Shrove Tuesday - or as we would say in our house when I was young, Dydd Mawrth Crempog - Pancake Tuesday. But I have a dilema: my wife is off down south for a couple of days and my mother is still in hospital - both of whom make mean pancakes. So what to do? Any tips on pancake making anyone? And if you fancy knowing a little more about the shrove in Shrove Tuesday, check this blog. Continue reading ...
Adrian Warnock and missions to native Americans
In his blog today Adrian Warnock asks how the native Americans should be reached with the gospel. There doesn't seem to be a comment box on the post but if there was I would have wanted to make this point: the first starting point for any white person from any European background to reaching any indigenous people group with the good news is to apologise for the damage done by past imperial conquest. Then there would have to be strenuous efforts to show that the missionaries come to serve rath... Continue reading ...
