In
yesterday’s post I asked whether Jesus’ criticism of the Pharisees’ mission
methods could be applied to the church of today. Their religion-based mission
was as contrary to the Jesus way as their religion-based living. The question
that needs asking, of course, is this: is there another way of doing mission or
are we stuck in the old ways? In this post I want to share the links of a
couple of examples of what is happening in the UK today.
Justin Abraham
The first
is the Wales-based ministry of Justin Abraham. Formerly of Emerge Wales and now
heading up the Company of Burning Hearts, Justin Abraham is one of these really
whacky followers of Jesus who seems to enjoy treading on religious toes. Not
without his critics, Justin gets filled up with the Holy Spirit and takes it
onto the streets to share with the passing world. It’s definitely out of the box
stuff – actually they left the box behind years back! – but take a look at
Justin’s site and see what you think.
Ben and Catherine Taylor
The second
is very different to the first but is still based on the principle that God
wants to transform creation and not ‘build church’. Ben and Catherine Taylor
are based in Somerton, southern England, and are living out what it means
to be intentionally missional and incarnational.
So two very
different ministries but both united with a desire to see God move and both
connecting with God’s mission in the world.
