A train-crash was how many have described Martin Bashir’s interview with Rob Bell, suggesting that Bell came out quite badly. I’ve watched it twice now and have to disagree. Bashir is a professional TV journalist with some heavyweight interviews under his belt (Princess Di and ‘King of Pop’ Michael Jackson being the most famous) and in my view Bell came out really well.

When Bashir went in hard (which, let’s be honest, was most of the time) Bell was engaging, sincere and kind. When Bashir wanted black and white; Bell gave him many shades of grey. His body language suggested he was tense though – as it was in the Lisa Miller interview. But who can blame him for that – he’s in the firing line and having to defend himself against some serious charges.

So keep going, Rob Bell. You have a fan here.
